Palpung Wales - Tibetan Buddhist Meditation Centre

Palpung Changchub Dargyeling was established on the 8th December 2004 at the request of many students of His Holiness Guru Vajradhara 12th Kenting Tai Situpa as a place where they could receive teachings, advice and guidance on their practice and study of meditation and Buddhism.

In 2004 the Kenting Tai Situpa appointed Choje Lama Rabsang as the resident teacher at Palpung Wales. The Centre was first located in a rented property Llandrindod Wells, moving to Cardiff in 2007 and finally settling in Brynmawr in 2009. You can find the Inauguration Letter by HH Tai Situpa HERE.

What the Centre Can Offer You

  • Classes & Courses

The Centre holds weekly classes on meditation, offers courses on Buddhist philosophy, other Buddhist practices and meditation. A few times a year we also host visits by great Buddhist masters, who give teachings over a few days.

  • Group Retreats

The Centre offers group retreats for beginners and also for more experienced practitioners. The retreats are usually on meditation or a deity practice, and vary from 2 days for up to 10 days. We also hold an annual 2 month Winter Retreat from December to January.

  • Personal Retreats

The Centre has 8 peaceful and beautiful single rooms especially dedicated to retreating. Centre’s resident teacher Choje Lama Rabsang is available for personal interviews and retreat guidance on request. You can find more info about the personal retreats HERE.

  • Pujas

The Centre holds weekly pujas, alternating between Chenrezig and Medicine Buddha, as well as a daily practice of White Tara and Mahakala. Puja (sadhana) translates as ‘means of accomplishment.’ Despite the different forms of deities, their essence is always the same enlightened mind. In the sadhana practice (puja) we aim to develop an enlightened vision of the world.

  • Prayer Ritual & Blessings

On request the Centre’s resident teacher Choje Lama Rabsang can give also interviews, Buddhist refuge vows, Bodhisattva vows and blessings on different occasions. He has been invited to do home blessings, wedding blessings as well as special prayers for deceased. These beautiful rituals don’t cost anything, but it is a traditional custom to give a donation for the teacher and also cover the travel expenses should there be any.

  • Community Events

Everyone is welcome to attend and to be part of the community in a way that is most suitable for them. We welcome the whole family to join in. One does not need to be Buddhist to attend the activities of the Centre. We hold regular voluntary working days and weekends, community gatherings and occasionally Buddhist film evenings. We also get together to celebrate teachers´ birthdays, Western and Tibetan New Years, and many other occasions, which you can see from the calendar.

  • Volunteering

Palpung Wales is run solely by volunteers and we gratefully welcome extra help. There are opportunities to volunteer on a one day basis, as a stay-in volunteer for a few days to a few weeks, or longer as a residential volunteer. The tasks vary from household tasks like cleaning to small DIY, from gardening to cooking. We occasionally have also some project where we need more help or skilled volunteers. You can find more info HERE.

  • Palpung Maitri House

Palpung Maitri House is a community venue, which aims to bring people together under the umbrella of friendship, harmony and wellbeing. Maitri House is non-denominational and open to everyone. The venue is available to rent for classes or events, by community groups, individuals, and professionals. More info about Palpung Maitri House HERE.

  • Buddhist Library

The Centre has a growing collection of Buddhist books and magazines, which one can borrow or read in our library. We have books which cover almost all aspects of Buddhism, from which you can get valuable guidance, inspiration and information when just beginning on the path or furthering and deepening your understanding of Buddhist philosophy, practices and the way of life. You can keep the books for up to a month, or longer if agreed with office personnel.

  • Dharma Shop

At the Centre there is a little shop of Buddhist books, photos and images, incense, beads, thangkas, shrine brocades, meditation shawls, Buddhist ritual items like bell&dorje sets, damarus, statues, incense holders etc. You can visit the shop during our normal opening hours Tue - Sat 2pm-6pm, or you can contact the shop via email at palpunguk.shop@gmail.com and enquire about the items. We can send you photos for you to see, and if you do decide to buy, we will mail the items to you.
