Chokhor Duchen is one of the most important “great occasion(s)” (Chokhor means Dharma chakra, duchen means great occasion) of the Tibetan Buddhist calendar as it marks historic Buddha Shakyamuni’s first turning of the wheel of Dharma. Buddha’s first teaching was on the ‘Four Noble Truths’ and it is said to have taken place at Deer Park in Sarnath near Varanasi. We celebrate and commemorate this occasion by prayers and offerings. It is said that the karmic results on this day are multiplied, so the practice of virtue is strongly encouraged.
You are welcome to bring offerings (candles, flowers, fruits, incense etc. to the shrine as an offering)
